.swiss – the internet address for Swiss organisations

New Swiss internet domain: .swiss

Swiss products and services enjoy an excellent reputation both domestically and abroad. This is why Swiss indications of source are being used with increasing popularity. In order to give Swiss organisations the opportunity to benefit from this excellent reputation, the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) will assume the new domain .swiss.

The registration of a .swiss domain name is reserved for public sector bodies or other Swiss organisations under public law and for corporations or artificial persons registered in the Swiss Commercial Register who have their registered office and a genuine administrative site in Switzerland.

The first period of the implementation of the domain, the so-called “Sunrise Period”, starts on September 7, 2015 and lasts until November 9, 2015. During the “Sunrise Period” only domain names related to marks registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse central register, to names of public authorities as well as certain rights attached to distinctive signs which are protected in Switzerland (e.g. trademarks, business names, PDO) can be registered.

The general launch, meanwhile, will begin on 11 January 2016.
